Mark Mitchell sees eligibility case delayed by judge to next week
Judge Brian Edwards did not rule Friday and asked for more written arguments by Aug. 18 as Mitchell seeks a fifth year and transfer rights.
On Friday, Missouri forward Mark Mitchell participated in a court hearing at the Jefferson County District Courthouse in Louisville, seeking a fifth year of eligibility and the right to enter the transfer portal.
Mitchell, a member of the 2022 Class, filed the lawsuit because the NCAA did not grandfather him into its new eligibility structure, which limits athletes to five years of play.
Although a Colorado ruling allows some 2022 graduates eligibility, it only applies to players already in the transfer portal, leaving Mitchell ineligible for that relief.
Judge Brian Edwards did not issue a ruling during Friday's hearing, instead requesting both parties submit additional written arguments by Tuesday, Aug. 18, with a decision expected next week.
The NCAA continues to defend its eligibility rules before the Tenth Circuit while Kentucky classes begin Aug. 24, leaving Mitchell's potential transfer status uncertain as the roster deadline approaches.
