The Maritime Police rescued 39 people on the island of Gavdos, Greece, during a mission to monitor the external maritime border of the European Union, announced today the National Maritime Authority.
The authorities proceeded with the identification and rescue of 75 migrants south of Gavdos, under the coordination of the ECHR. The occupants were spotted by Frontex drones on two different boats, carrying 39 and 36 people respectively. They were picked up by a European Border Guard vessel and transported safely to the port of Paleochora.
