Amid Calls for Transparency, Utah Officials Aren’t Saying Much About Plans for a Large ICE Detention Center Here

Residents fear the 500-capacity center will increase enforcement and worsen detention conditions as local officials had no say in the $15 million state sale to private prison operator MTC.

Gov. Cox's office says it hasn't been notified of any plans for a 10,000-bed ICE detention facility in Utah, contrary to national media reports. An open-records request to his office came up empty, prompting some to call for more transparency in the process.
