Manzardo’s HR and 2 RBIs, Cantillo’s strong outing power Guardians to a 6-1 over the Reds
On Wednesday, the Cleveland Guardians defeated the Cincinnati Reds 6-1 in Cincinnati, securing the 'Ohio Cup' as winners of the season series from their in-state rivals.
A decisive fifth inning propelled the Guardians, who scored four runs on one hit despite loading the bases with no outs. Defensive errors by Elly De La Cruz and two bases-loaded walks from Brady Singer helped Cleveland capitalize.
Starter Joey Cantillo pitched four scoreless innings with eight strikeouts and four hits allowed. Kyle Manzardo hit his 13th home run of the season off Chase Petty in the seventh, extending the lead to 5-1.
Cincinnati's offense stalled, with Noelvi Marte driving in the Reds' only run via a sixth-inning single off Franco Aleman. Singer allowed four unearned runs before exiting.
Reds RHP Rhett Lowder starts Thursday against the visiting Pirates. The Guardians return Friday to face the Diamondbacks, with RHP Tanner Bibee scheduled to start.
