The average Ontarian might not notice that young nurses caring for patients in hospitals are leaving their jobs in droves. According to a recent report from the public policy think tank MEI, for every 100 new nurses under the age of 35 hired in Canada, 40 leave the profession. The situation is worsening in Ontario, where the attrition rate is 37 to 38 nurses, significantly higher than the 22 nurses who left 10 years ago.
