Many Labour MPs Are Blaming Starmer for Elections Body Blow
Dozens of Labour MPs are calling for a timetable for his departure as polls show falling confidence and bookmakers see a 2026 exit as most likely.
At least a dozen Labour MPs publicly urged Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer to resign or set a departure timeline following damaging election results.
The Labour Party recently lost nearly 900 councillors and its governing power in the Welsh Senedd, while Reform made significant gains in areas across the country.
McDonnell told LBC, "we could lose the Labour party under Keir Starmer," while MPs including Haigh and Baines argued the Prime Minister cannot lead them into another election.
Sir Keir is "hunkering down" in No10 and plans to deliver a major speech and unveil new legislation next week to address the crisis.
Business Secretary Peter Kyle urged a "collective effort" to reverse results, though Blake argued an orderly transition plan for a post-Starmer Labour party is needed before the next election.
