Manchester Airport Passengers Warned of 6-Hour Airport Queues in This Holiday Hotspot
UK travelers face waits of up to 6 hours at Portuguese airports as the European Union’s new border checks and baggage strikes slow processing.
Brits face severe delays at Lisbon and Faro airports due to the new EES rollout currently impacting Holidaymakers traveling to Portugal this summer.
Since its introduction last month, the EES has drawn backlash because non-European nationals traveling in Europe must now provide personal data, fingerprints, and photographs at entry.
A Portugal travel advisor reported last week that a family stood in line for 6 hours and 40 minutes in Lisbon, while Faro International Airport, built for 4M passengers, now processes 9M+ in summer.
Major airlines, including Jet2 and Ryanair, have called for the rollout's suspension until after summer to allow a "smoother airport experience," while CEO David O'Brien of Malta Air threatened to pull all flights.
Porto offers a faster alternative, with travel advisors noting it is "40% faster through EES than Lisbon," and families with children under 12 can request assisted lanes reducing waits to around 30 minutes.
