Kerala has been hit by heavy floods. Due to the ongoing heavy monsoon rains in Kerala, the water level in the Periyar river has risen sharply, completely submerging the famous Aluva Manappuram Sri Mahadeva Temple (Aluva Shiva Temple) in Ernakulam district. The floodwaters of the Periyar river have entered the temple premises and the riverbank, submerging the Shivalinga and parts of the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.
