Man jailed for trying to murder estranged wife in Edinburgh knife attack in front of daughter
Osarenkhoe Atutie received an extended sentence and an indefinite non-harassment order after the attack left Victory Atutie with 12 injuries.
On Wednesday, Osarenkhoe Atutie, 26, was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in custody at the High Court in Glasgow for the attempted murder of his estranged wife, Victory Atutie, in Edinburgh.
The assault took place on November 11, 2025, when Atutie confronted Victory on Duke Street in Leith while she took their daughter to a doctor's appointment, initiating a sustained attack with a knife.
Victory sustained 12 injuries, including a collapsed lung; Lord Cubie noted she survived "plainly through a combination of luck and the intervention of three passers-by" who disarmed and restrained the attacker.
The sentence includes a nine-year extended term comprising seven-and-a-half years in custody and 18 months of supervision on licence, plus an indefinite non-harassment order banning Atutie from contacting Victory.
Detective Sergeant Craig McMillan stated, "Without their intervention and assistance, there is a high chance that the victim would not have survived the attack," affirming Police Scotland's priority on tackling violent crime.
