Man who sold chemical online jailed 14 years for assisting suicides

On January 7, 2026, Miles Cross, 33, was jailed for 14 years at Mold Crown Court after admitting to selling a chemical online for £100 to vulnerable people, in what prosecutors call the UK's first case of its kind.
Under a pseudonym, Cross set up an online business charging �100 per package after joining an online suicide discussion forum in July 2024 and posting a QR code for payments.
When police searched his Wrexham home in January 2025, they found 100 zip foil bags, chemicals, paraphernalia, and analysis of seized devices and bank records linked him to forum accounts and victims.
Judge Rhys Rowlands described the case as `rare and extremely serious` at sentencing, and the Crown Prosecution Service said Cross targeted vulnerable people, made ordering easy and profited from sales.
Police and Ofcom closed the forum used by Cross, removing its UK access, while North Wales Police, the National Crime Agency and NHS experts urged vulnerable people to seek help from Samaritans on 116 123.
