Ottawa police seeking suspect who tore off woman’s hijab
Police say the woman was unhurt as the hate crime unit investigates a suspect who fled on foot after the assault.
Ottawa police are investigating a "hate-motivated assault" after a woman's hijab was ripped off over the weekend near Bayshore Shopping Centre.
According to police, the suspect approached the woman unprovoked on Woodridge Crescent in the 100 block around 3 p.m., uttered a racial slur, and fled on foot.
The Hate Crime Unit and The West Criminal Investigations Section are leading the investigation, with police confirming the woman was unhurt during the encounter.
As of yesterday, the suspect remains at large and was unknown to the victim, police said in their Sunday media release.
