Epping migrant hotel resident charged with sexual assault
Mohammed Sharwarq faces seven charges including sexual assault and assault by beating linked to incidents at a hotel housing asylum seekers amid ongoing local protests, police said.
- A Syrian national at The Bell Hotel on Epping High Road appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday after police called on Thursday .
- In recent weeks, the Bell Hotel, Epping, used by the Home Office for asylum seekers, has been at the centre of protests before the arrest.
- According to court documents, Sharwarq allegedly kissed a man on the neck, punched a man, threw an object, slapped a third and attempted to punch a fourth inside the hotel between July 25 and August 12.
- Essex Police confirmed they are not seeking additional suspects, and Sharwarq has been remanded in custody pending his court appearance.
- The council has applied for a High Court injunction after July 24, 2025, when Whitbread said, `The current situation cannot go on. If the Bell Hotel was a nightclub, we could have closed it down long ago`.
