Man survives grizzly bear attack while walking off-leash dog in Shuswap
Officers said the bear chased the dog before contacting the hiker, and no effort will be made to capture it.
- On Tuesday, Sept 1, a Man hiking with his off-leash dog along the Queest Mountain Forest Service Road near Sicamous sustained non-life-threatening injuries after encountering Bears.
- Upon investigation, Conservation Officers determined the attack was defensive in nature after the animal chased the dog and made contact with the Man at about 8 p.m.
- BC Conservation Officer Service will not attempt to locate or capture the animal; Conservation Officers placed Warning signage in the area to alert other hikers.
