Man sentenced for helping escaped prisoner Daniel Khalife
Khan helped arrange £400 for the fugitive, enabling him to buy a phone and other items while evading capture, prosecutors said.
- On Friday, Adeel Khan was sentenced to four-and-a-half years at Snaresbrook Crown Court for assisting escaped prisoner Daniel Khalife, whom he knew from working together in the prison kitchen.
- After Khalife escaped from HMP Wandsworth on September 6, 2023, Khan orchestrated a network to provide funds by asking Imran Chowdhury to withdraw £400 and paying him £120 for the task.
- Investigators recovered a red diary in Khalife's possession containing Khan's contact details and about £200 in cash; Khalife also called Khan repeatedly using members of the public's phones.
- Judge Murray Shanks stated he was 'quite sure' there had been discussion about Khalife's plan before the escape, and Khan received a concurrent 15-month term for possessing an illegal prison phone.
- Khan was held at HMP Wandsworth awaiting extradition for human trafficking and firearms offences when Khalife escaped, while Khalife himself received 14 years and three months for breaching the Official Secrets and Terrorism Acts.
