Man jailed for killing student over fake Rolex row
Jurors also convicted Dennis of carrying a weapon and failing to give police his phone PIN after a dispute over a fake Rolex.
On Tuesday, a jury convicted Harper Dennis, 19, of manslaughter following a two-week trial at Leicester Crown Court for the February 3 death of Khaleed Oladipo, 20.
Dennis testified he sent £6,000 to Oladipo for a scamming venture but discovered the Rolex offered as collateral was fake after Two jewellers examined it in Hatton Garden.
Prosecutor Jane Osborne detailed how Dennis fatally stabbed Oladipo five times near the Montfort University Innovation Centre, an encounter captured on Leicestershire Police dashcam footage.
Jurors acquitted Dennis of murder but convicted him of weapon possession and failing to provide his phone Pin; he awaits sentencing for the manslaughter conviction.
Detective Inspector Lorna Granville of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit Major Crime Team described the incident as a disproportionate reaction to a "silly dispute" affecting the student community.
