Murder Investigation Launched After Man Dies at Barmouth Beach
A 24-year-old man is in custody as detectives appeal for witnesses and photos after the 34-year-old victim died, police said.
North Wales Police launched a murder investigation Monday after a 34-year-old man died at Barmouth Beach in Gwynedd, with emergency services responding to reports of a "man in the water" shortly after 3pm on May 25.
A 24-year-old man from the Birmingham area was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody while inquiries continue.
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Superintendent Chris Bell appealed for witnesses and urged people on the beach between 2pm and 4pm to send photos and videos "as soon as possible," stating any image could prove relevant to the investigation.
Bell reassured the community that police are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident, while the victim's family is being supported by specialist officers and increased patrols will provide reassurance in coming days.
Detectives continue appealing for witnesses who were at the beach Monday afternoon to contact police, with the public able to submit evidence through North Wales Police's major incident portal.
