Man Earns Conditional Discharge for 2025 Assault at B.C. Nightclub
The judge said the attack was unprovoked and ordered 18 months of probation, restitution and apology letters for both victims.
- On Wednesday, May 13, Justice Jeremy Guild granted Drayden Steele, 25, a conditional discharge for assaulting two people outside Traverse Nightclub in January 2025. Steele received 18 months of probation.
- Steele punched Traverse host Oliver Cooper and guest Laura Larson after growing impatient in line on January 10, 2025. Defence lawyer Harleen Gill confirmed Steele had consumed cocaine and alcohol before the attack.
- Victim impact statements detailed injuries including a concussion, split lip, cracked jaw, and seven months of rehabilitation. Larson said the incident "took my dignity," leading her to leave Revelstoke and change jobs.
- Steele must pay $2,250 in restitution by April 30, 2027, and write apologies to Cooper and Larson by July 31, 2026. Justice Guild also imposed a ban on all recreational substances.
- Justice Guild rejected defence arguments about Steele's past trauma, stating, "One unprovoked attack is too many." The court emphasized the deliberate nature of the violence despite Steele's efforts toward counseling and sobriety.
