Lurgan: Man Appears in Court over Police Station Bomb Attempt
Detectives say DNA, CCTV and phone evidence link the accused to a forced delivery of a viable pipe bomb, and around 100 homes were evacuated.
On Friday, Barry Anthony Toman appeared via videolink at Craigavon Magistrates Court facing charges of attempted murder and hijacking linked to the March 30 pipe bomb attack on Lurgan PSNI Station.
The New IRA claimed responsibility for hijacking a pizza delivery driver on March 30, forcing the victim to transport a pipe bomb to the station, which the detective chief inspector said "failed to detonate."
Police presented DNA evidence from five locations on the device, though Toman's solicitor Gavin Booth argued it was "very dangerous to connect his client at this stage" given the circumstantial nature of the findings.
Following the hearing, Toman remains in custody after his defence lawyer declined to make a bail application, with the matter scheduled to return before the courts on June 5.
Authorities have arrested other individuals including a 39-year-old woman charged with obstructing police and a 15-year-old boy released on bail pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.
