Man drowns after jumping into Oregon’s famous Blue Pool
Authorities said the 21-year-old Kansas student drowned after jumping into the cold pool, where water averages 37 degrees and cell service is limited.
On Friday, 21-year-old Kansas resident Kenny Truong drowned after jumping into Tamolitch Falls, also known as Blue Pool. Despite efforts by bystanders and first responders, Truong did not survive.
Water temperatures at Blue Pool average 37 degrees Fahrenheit, cold enough to cause immediate physical shock upon entry. Cliffs surrounding the pool rise between 10 and 60 feet, creating hazardous jumping conditions.
Linn County Undersheriff Micah Smith noted the remote site has minimal to zero cell phone reception, complicating emergency response. Transporting injured individuals from the area to a hospital can take several hours, officials said.
The Linn County Sheriff's Office responded to the 911 call Friday at 8:47 p.m. In a statement, the office said, "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Kenny Truong."
Officials urge visitors to understand the risks before entering the water and to monitor companions. The area remains a popular Central Oregon destination, attracting visitors from throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Kenny Truong jumped into the water at the popular swimming spot. The 21-year-old student died. Now the police are warning everyone who visits the swimming spot, writes Fox News.
