Man Dies on South West Beach After Trying to Save Family
Police said the two family members were rescued by members of the public after the man suffered cardiac arrest in the sea.
A local man in his 60s died on Monday around 3.50pm after entering the sea at Tregirls Beach near Padstow, Cornwall to rescue two family members who got into difficulty in the water.
Two relatives encountered difficulty in the sea, prompting the man to wade in to help, though members of the public ultimately brought them to safety while he suffered cardiac arrest.
The RNLI, ambulance, and police responded to the scene after emergency services were alerted at 3.50pm on Monday, May 25, and the man's next of kin have been informed.
Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious, with a file to be prepared for HM Coroner.
The tragedy occurred during Britain's record-breaking heat wave, with temperatures reaching their highest ever for a May day according to the Met Office, as a 13-year-old boy also died in a West Yorkshire reservoir the same day.
