- According to the arrest warrant and witnesses, a marijuana purchase sparked the dispute, and Kennedy arrived on Feb. 12 with three other individuals entering Hugine Suites.
- Around 9 p.m. on Feb. 12, the shooting occurred inside a room in the Hugine Suites student housing complex, killing Henry L. Crittington, 19, and Terrell Thomas, 18, while a third shooting victim is treated at a hospital.
- Effective Feb. 17, South Carolina State University updated gate access and entry procedures, increasing vehicle searches and limiting non-student visiting hours to 9 a.m.-9 p.m.; President Alexander Conyers will brief stakeholders online at 5 p.m. on Feb. 19.
- This marks the HBCU's second deadly on-campus shooting in about four months, following the Oct. 4 homecoming shooting; after that, South Carolina State University opened a police substation in Hugine Suites and expanded cameras, lighting, and patrols.
