Impaired boater charged after passenger dies on lake near Bancroft, Ont.
WESLEMKOON LAKE, TOWNSHIP OF ADDINGTON HIGHLANDS, ONTARIO, JUL 13 – Dawson Lowes faces multiple charges including impaired operation after a passenger fell overboard and died, with the body recovered 12 hours later, police said.
- Police have charged 21-year-old Dawson Lowes of Toronto following an incident on July 12, 2025, in which a passenger went into the water and subsequently drowned on Weslemkoon Lake.
- Just before 8 a.m., authorities were alerted that a 22-year-old man had fallen into the water on Weslemkoon Lake, located within the Addington Highlands area.
- A coordinated response involved the OPP’s local detachments, marine, aviation, underwater search and rescue, and joint rescue coordination units.
- Authorities recovered the body of the 22-year-old passenger around 8 p.m. that evening; Dawson Lowes has been charged with operating a vessel while impaired, reckless operation, and causing death by his actions.
- The investigation remains ongoing, and police have not released the deceased’s identity while urging anyone with information to contact local authorities or Crime Stoppers.
