Man and woman in court amid investigation into attempted murder of two Police Scotland officers

Police said the officers were seriously injured after a van was deliberately driven at them during enquiries, and detectives searched more than 100 properties.

  • Police Scotland arrested a 32-year-old man on Tuesday on the M74 near Junction 8, charging him with the attempted murder of two officers injured in South Lanarkshire on Saturday, July 25.
  • Officers were carrying out inquiries at a property on Glen Avenue in Larkhall when a Renault Traffic was allegedly "deliberately driven at them," leaving two male officers, aged 41 and 43, seriously injured.
  • Detectives searched more than 100 properties throughout Lanarkshire and the Scottish Borders, reviewed extensive CCTV footage, and recovered the van in Kirkstyle Place, Glassford during the investigation.
  • Both the suspect and a 59-year-old woman are due to appear before Hamilton Sheriff Court on Wednesday, August 26, with the woman previously charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.
  • Detective Inspector Alister Thom confirmed the injured officers have been discharged but will remain unfit for duty for a prolonged period, while Police thanked members of the public for their support during the investigation.
