Boulder attack suspect charged with federal hate crimes
- Mohamed Sabry Soliman, a 45-year-old Egyptian immigrant living illegally in the U.S., attacked pro-Israel demonstrators at Boulder’s Pearl Street Mall on June 1.
- He reportedly planned the attack for over a year after his gun purchase was blocked and targeted the group based on their perceived Zionist affiliations.
- Soliman attacked a group by throwing Molotov cocktails, shouting “Free Palestine,” dressing as a gardener, and using a flamethrower rigged from a weed sprayer, resulting in injuries to more than a dozen individuals and a dog.
- The federal indictment charges Soliman with nine hate-crime counts along with explosives offenses, while state charges total 118, including many attempted first-degree murder counts.
- The attack’s prosecution will address Soliman’s motives, and Jewish organizations have set up a fund to aid victims injured in the incident.
