Man Faces 22 Charges over Four Shootings in Surrey, B.C., in 2025 and 2026
Provincial prosecutors approved 22 Criminal Code charges after investigators linked Marco Matias to three December shootings and one August attack, police said.
On Friday, The Surrey Police Service announced that Marco Matias, 37, faces numerous criminal charges in connection with four shootings in Surrey, B.C., including three in Guildford last December and one in Cloverdale last month.
Investigators identified Matias as the suspect responsible for three targeted shootings at a residence near 110 Avenue and 140 Street in December 2025, where assailants reportedly fired shots from inside a vehicle.
Regarding the August 12 incident near 60 Avenue and 177 Street, the BC Prosecution Service approved 10 additional charges on September 4, including aggravated assault, after an attacker fired at two people, injuring one.
Matias remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing, with his next scheduled court appearance set for September 16; authorities confirmed the shootings were targeted but not linked to regional gang conflicts or extortion.
Provincial prosecutors had previously approved 12 charges against the suspect on August 24, including three counts of reckless discharge of a firearm and possession of unauthorized weapons.
