Man charged after car allegedly hit seven people in Derby city centre
Police said four of the seven victims have been discharged as Sandhu Ponnachan faces charges including six counts of GBH with intent.
- Sandhu Ponnachan, 36, of Alvaston, was charged after a black Suzuki Swift struck pedestrians in Derby city centre on Saturday evening.
- Outside a Friar Gate pub on Saturday at approximately 9:30 p.m., the collision left seven people with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
- Ponnachan faces six counts of GBH with intent, one count of attempted GBH with intent, one count of dangerous driving, and one count of possession of a bladed article.
- Four of those injured have since been discharged, while Ponnachan remains in custody awaiting a Wednesday appearance at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court.
- Chief Superintendent Emma Aldred said the incident 'sent shockwaves through the community' and urged anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage to contact Derbyshire Police.
