Man beaten to death, another injured by mob for sexually assaulting two women
- On Thursday, a Government Railway Police constable was lynched by a mob in the Balianta area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar after he was accused of molesting a woman.
- Near Bingharpur, two women on a scooter were overtaken by two youths on a motorcycle; when the women fell, Bystanders intervened after the youths allegedly attempted to molest them.
- The mob overpowered Soumya Ranjan Swain, a GRP constable from Cuttack, tying him up and beating him severely before he was declared dead at Capital Hospital.
- Police have received two FIRs regarding the incident, including one alleging attempted rape and another from the family accusing unidentified persons of murder, Deputy Commissioner Jagmohan Meena said.
- Though the Police Control Room was alerted and a team rushed to the spot, the situation had spiralled out of control before they arrived. Police are now using viral video footage to identify those involved.
