Woman Says SWAT Team Damaged Home During Search for Shooting Suspect

Authorities say the SWAT team was searching for Edward Lampkin Jr. in a homicide probe, while the homeowner reported shattered windows, smashed doors and tear gas damage.

  • On Tuesday, Arkansas State Police SWAT officers raided a Wynne home searching for homicide suspect Edward Lampkin Jr., 36, but did not find him inside the residence of Grandester Johnson-El.
  • Law enforcement targeted the 400 block of K Street while investigating the fatal shooting of 34-year-old Javon Beal, who died Tuesday after being found with gunshot wounds at C Street and Fitzhugh Circle.
  • Johnson-El, who was working during the raid, returned home to find shattered windows, debris, and tear gas canisters throughout her residence. "They destroyed my home," she told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette on Thursday.
  • Cindy Murphy, communications director for the Arkansas Department of Public Safety, defended the SWAT team's actions as "very intentional," noting the unit is a Level 1 team recognized by the Department of Homeland Security.
  • Property owners are encouraged to seek relief for operational damages through the Arkansas Claims Commission. Murphy stated that while property damage is "unfortunate, but not uncommon," officers left contact information for decontamination guidance.
