Man arrested in the attack on Ilhan Omar has a criminal history and made pro-Trump posts

- Court records show Anthony Kazmierczak has a criminal history including a 1989 felony auto theft conviction and multiple DUI arrests, and his social media posts support President Donald Trump while criticizing Joe Biden.
- Rep. Ilhan Omar continued speaking for about 25 minutes after the incident, said she wasn’t hurt, would be screened by a medical team, and later posted she was okay.
- As of Wednesday, Anthony Kazmierczak had not been formally charged and the Hennepin County Attorney's Office has until Thursday to file charges; U.S. Capitol Police said it is working with federal partners to pursue serious charges, while President Donald Trump accused Omar of staging the attack.
- Threats against members of Congress have risen in recent years, peaking in 2021 after Jan. 6, and the assault followed a man arrested for punching Rep. Maxwell Frost days earlier.
