Palm Beach Man Arrested for Stealing Encrypted Key from Election Training

- The theft occurred five days before the March 24 special election for Florida House District, where Democrat Emily Gregory narrowly defeated Republican Jon Maples by around 800 votes in the district including President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago.
- Although the stolen key was configured only for training databases, investigators expressed concern that a knowledgeable person could reverse-engineer the encryption to access live voter registration kiosks for malicious purposes.
- Following his Saturday arrest, Panicci appeared in court Sunday morning and is held at the Palm Beach County Jail on $6,000 bail with orders prohibiting contact with the Palm Beach County Supervisor.
- Authorities confirmed the investigation into the incident remains ongoing, and officials have not yet determined if any voter data was compromised while the equipment was missing.
