Man Accused of Stealing Firetruck While Crews Battle Fire at His NH Home, Officials Say
Officials say Nestor Roman stole a fire engine and drove it into vehicles while his home burned, and no injuries were reported.
- On Tuesday, 30-year-old Nestor Roman II allegedly stole a Whitefield Fire Department engine while crews battled a fully involved structure fire at his Dalton home shortly before 4 a.m., New Hampshire State Police said.
- Dalton Fire Rescue and neighboring agencies responded to a call about a fully involved structure fire near the intersection of Faraway Road and Mountain Road shortly after 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. The residence became a total loss.
- Roman rammed two other emergency vehicles and drove toward firefighters, creating an "extremely dangerous environment for firefighters already working to control the structure fire," the Littleton Fire-Rescue Department said. He also damaged wooden fences at two properties.
- New Hampshire State Police Lt. Christopher Ladd arrested Roman after he allegedly tried to break into a residence miles away on Faraway Road. Roman faces 15 charges including reckless conduct with a deadly weapon and will be arraigned Wednesday in Lancaster District Court.
- The New Hampshire State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the fire's cause while the Whitefield Firefighters Association reported that two of their engines "sustained a great deal of damage." No firefighters were physically injured during the incident.
