Wayne Man Charged With Attempting to Support ISIS in New Jersey
Authorities say Mohamed Sagha, 22, discussed attacks on U.S. targets and tried to hide his online activity while seeking to aid ISIS.
- Mohamed Sagha, a 22-year-old Wayne resident, was charged on Monday with attempting to provide material support to ISIS. He was ordered detained following his initial appearance before Magistrate Judge Leda Wettre in United States District Court in Newark.
- Since December 2025, Sagha allegedly participated in online chat groups discussing attacks on houses of worship. Additionally, he made an unsuccessful attempt to travel to Syria in March 2026 to join the terrorist organization.
- Working with a confidential source, Sagha shared photos of potential targets near his residence. Between May 31 and June 2, he provided a Virtual Private Network subscription to the source to conceal his online activities.
- FBI officials disrupted Sagha's plans before any attack could occur. If convicted of the federal charge, Sagha faces up to 20 years in prison, according to a criminal complaint filed in the case.
- U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer for the District of New Jersey stated the case reflects efforts to combat domestic radicalization. "The FBI detected and put a stop to his violent plans," FBI Counterterrorism Division Assistant Director Donald Holstead said.
