Staten Island Leaders Appointed to Mamdani’s 400-Person Transition Team
Zohran Mamdani named over 400 advisors to 17 committees, including Democratic Socialists of America leaders, to guide policy and hiring for his administration starting Jan. 1.
- On Monday, Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani named more than 400 people to 17 transition committees at Central Park Conservatory Garden.
- Mamdani said the committees will focus on the affordability agenda of housing, childcare and transportation and address 17,000 vacancies by vetting 70,000 applicants.
- Notable appointees include former officials Christine Quinn, John King, Daniel Nigro, Ruth Messinger, Oxiris Barbot and five DSA members like Gustavo Gordillo and Grace Mausser.
- The committees will recommend hires as Mamdani staffs over 60 agencies, 95 mayoral offices, and 257 boards and commissions, Elana Leopold said oversight will ensure the administration is `staffed with top talent and ready on day one`.
- By comparison, past transitions ranged from Mayor de Blasio's 60 to Adams' more than 700 team members, with two new committees—Worker Justice and Community Organizing—marking a break with previous teams.
