Three charged over Golders Green arson attack on Jewish ambulances
Counterterrorism police say the case is not being treated as terrorism as armed patrols protect Jewish communities across north London.
- Counter Terrorism Policing London charged Hamza Iqbal, 20, Rehan Khan, 19, and a 17-year-old with arson reckless as to whether life would be endangered following Crown Prosecution Service authorization. The three are due at Westminster Magistrates Court on Saturday, April 4.
- The charges follow a March 23 attack where four Hatzola ambulances were set alight on Highfield Road in Golders Green, causing onboard gas canisters to explode and damaging a nearby block of flats.
- While the investigation continues, two men previously arrested on March 25 remain on bail pending further enquiries, as Counter Terrorism Policing London has not declared the incident as terrorism at this stage.
- Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams confirmed an "enhanced, bespoke policing plan" involving highly visible armed patrols across London to protect communities, including Jewish residents preparing for the Passover festival.
- An Islamist militant group linked to Iran claimed responsibility for the arson, though security experts stated there is no evidence to verify this assertion.
