Major UK supermarket makes change to deliveries this summer
The supermarket said orders rose 17% during recent England and Scotland matches as it adds late-night slots through delivery partners.
Waitrose is extending on-demand grocery delivery to help football fans stock up during the World Cup, offering late-night and 24-hour deliveries from more than 50 stores across the UK.
Following a 17 per cent rise in orders during recent England and Scotland matches, Waitrose recorded a 1,700 per cent surge in pizza searches and a 1,400 per cent rise for 'World Cup crisps.'
Laura Burbedge, director of online at Waitrose, said delivery partners including Deliveroo, Uber Eats, and Just Eat will ensure "footy fans will have everything they need at hand."
Waitrose clarified that store opening hours will remain unchanged and alcohol will not be available during late-night delivery slots, despite prior interest in 24-hour alcohol sales at its Christchurch location.
If the service proves popular, the supermarket may roll it out to more locations, while separate fruit recalls due to potential salmonella contamination continue affecting major UK retailers.
