Major Saudi conferences to proceed, organisers say, despite deadly airport attack

Organisers of two major Saudi conferences said events will proceed this month despite missile attacks on Riyadh's airport this week that left four people dead and an airliner heavily damaged.
Escalating war with the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen has seen the kingdom attacked dozens of times, with the group declaring Saudi airspace a zone of military operations.
Germany's Lufthansa suspended Riyadh flights through Oct 16, while Gulf carriers Etihad Airways and Flydubai cancelled service today, as the UK, France, and Germany warned citizens to avoid the Saudi capital.
FII CEO Maha stated, "Safety and well-being remain our highest priority," as World Petroleum Congress organizers noted alternative routes to Riyadh, including a four-hour drive from Dammam, are available.
Italian Energy Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin will participate via video link, while JPMorgan's Jamie Dimon and Citi's Jane Fraser remain on the list of expected attendees.
