Survivor's report led to dozens of charges in largest-ever human trafficking case in Halton region
Police say the 10-month probe identified at least 12 victims and led to seizures of luxury vehicles, drugs, jewelry and cash.
- On Tuesday, the Halton Regional Police Service announced nine suspects face over 85 charges following 'Project Troubadour,' a 10-month multi-jurisdictional human trafficking investigation identifying at least 12 victims.
- The investigation began last September when a woman came forward with exploitation allegations, prompting officers to execute 10 search warrants across the Greater Toronto Area on July 13.
- During the raids, investigators seized a Lamborghini Urus, two Mercedes-Benz vehicles, approximately $30,000 in currency, and an estimated $450,000 in jewelry; Detective Scott Heyerman noted identified victims range from 18 to 34.
- All nine suspects remained in custody pending bail hearings in Milton, while police continue accepting tips regarding potential additional victims, Superintendent David Costantini said.
- Evidence indicates victims were transported to British Columbia and Alberta, with Detective Heyerman stating the investigation is 'just the tip of the iceberg' regarding cross-border trafficking networks.
