Tour Boat Crew Saves Dog Swept Out to Sea in Inflatable Kayak by Strong Winds
The crew heard a Coast Guard call and pulled Bruce aboard after he slipped from a harness, the company said.
A tour boat crew in England rescued a German shepherd named Bruce from an inflatable kayak drifting about 2.5 miles off Farne Island. The Serenity Farne Island Boat Tours crew intercepted the animal after authorities issued an alert.
Strong westerly winds swept the kayak carrying Bruce further out to sea, prompting the search. While transporting guests to Inner Farne, skipper Jimmy Reid heard a Coast Guard radio call regarding the adrift animal.
After the dog slipped from his grasp into the sea, Crewman Aaron Fordy initially struggled to retrieve it. Eventually, Aaron and Jimmy grabbed the animal by its harness and leg, hauling it safely aboard.
Safely aboard, the crew wrapped Bruce in a towel to keep him warm during the return trip. Once back on land, the dog was successfully reunited with his owner.
The Serenity Farne Island Boat Tours Facebook post called the event 'a rescue we'll never forget.' The company stated that as the search continued, 'with every minute passing, hope was fading.
