Major European airport set to close for nearly 3 months with all flights cancelled
Airport authorities said the shutdown will allow a complete runway reconstruction and other upgrades, affecting more than two million passengers.
- Brussels South Charleroi Airport will close for 11 weeks starting August 15, 2028, for a €50 million runway reconstruction project affecting Belgium's second-busiest airport and primary hub for low-cost airlines.

- More than two million passengers are expected to be affected, based on 2025 data showing Charleroi Airport handled 11.2 million travelers; the single-runway design prevents partial operations during reconstruction.
- Travelers have significant lead time, as the closure is not scheduled until 2028; following August 15, 2028, the airport is expected to reopen on November 1, 2028.
