Nearly 75,000 Dodge Durangos Recalled over Problems with Rear Spoiler

The defect could damage the spoiler when the liftgate is used and increase the risk it detaches, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.

  • Chrysler is recalling about 74,578 Dodge Durangos in the United States over a rear spoiler defect that may cause it to detach from the vehicle, affecting certain 2021-2023 models.
  • FCA, LLC discovered that certain vehicles "were built with rear spoilers that may be over-flush to the roof, allowing contact to the roof when cycling the liftgate." The issue stems from assembly, not a part defect.
  • The automaker has recorded 161 instances "potentially relating to this issue" as of July 29. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration officials stated drivers may hear the "spoiler hit the body when opening or closing the liftgate, or a rattle from the spoiler being loose while driving."
  • NHTSA officials noted that a remedy is "under development," and Chrysler expects to mail notification letters to affected owners on or about Sept. 9.
  • These vehicles were previously recalled for other rear spoiler issues, though FCA, LLC is unaware of any accidents or injuries related to the current defect. Owners can verify their vehicle status through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's online recall lookup today.
