Here's Why 'Blade' Is Being Delayed, According Marvel Boss Kevin Feige
BURBANK, CALIFORNIA, JUL 20 – Marvel Studios faces ongoing delays for the Blade reboot, focusing on quality and a modern-day story with Mahershala Ali still attached, after multiple script rewrites and director changes.
- On July 18, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed the Blade reboot remains in development, stating `We landed on modern day` and Mahershala Ali is still attached.
- Originally announced in 2019 with a November 2023 release date, the Blade reboot faced COVID-19, WGA/SAG strikes, rewrites and director exits, slipping to November 2025 before being removed from the schedule.
- The reboot lost directors Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange, cycled through six writers and produced four script versions, including two period-set drafts.
- Kevin Feige said it wasn’t `insanely great` at the time, admitted `quantity trumped quality` and blamed the setbacks on the franchise’s `over-expansion`.
- Despite moving forward on the script, Eric Pearson is now penning the script as the project lacks a director and a production date.
