- On Saturday, a magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck the Java Sea at 368 kilometers deep, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency reported at 4:23 a.m. local time with no tsunami threat.
- BMKG Earthquake and Tsunami Director Wijayanto attributed the deep-focus earthquake to intraslab activity, explaining that "seismic waves propagate most efficiently through the dense and homogeneous plate slab medium towards the south."
- Residents across Java and Sumatra felt the earthquake, which registered intensity level IV MMI in Pandeglang, Banten, and Tanggamus, while weaker shaking reached Yogyakarta, Malang, and the Mentawai Islands.
- KAI Commuter suspended services following the earthquake to conduct safety inspections; the Bogor and Cikarang lines resumed by 5:26 a.m., with the Tangerang line resuming at 5:45 a.m.
- Indonesian Disaster Experts Association member Daryono noted deep-focus earthquakes rarely trigger aftershocks, stating "stress release tends to occur totally within a single main event." BMKG monitoring confirmed no subsequent activity through 5 a.m.
