- The Queenstown Lakes District Council closed the Edith Cavell Bridge for safety inspections following the tremors, while the Milford Road remained closed due to avalanche risk.
- Thousands reported the tremors to GeoNet, with residents across the South describing the events as "scary" and "decent shakes," while a woman in Dunedin's Kilda suburb said it "gave me a hell of a fright."
- Smaller aftershocks are expected to continue for days as Earth Sciences monitors the situation, with Offord advising residents to avoid steep or unstable slopes during ongoing shaking.
