Orlando Magic Waives Jonathan Isaac, Team Announces
Jonathan Isaac becomes an unrestricted free agent after nine injury-plagued seasons as Orlando opens four standard roster spots and trims projected luxury-tax payments.
On Saturday, the Orlando Magic waived veteran forward Jonathan Isaac, creating four standard-contract roster spots and providing the franchise with needed financial flexibility.
Releasing Isaac before Sunday's deadline prevents his salary from reaching $14.5 million, saving the team $6.5 million against the luxury tax for 2026-27.
Drafted sixth overall in 2017, Isaac spent nine years with Orlando but struggled with recurring injuries, including a torn ACL and recent knee sprains.
Although Isaac becomes an unrestricted free agent Tuesday, the team utilized a release loophole allowing them to potentially re-sign the veteran after he clears waivers.
Creating space below the second apron, Orlando gains financial flexibility to fill roster spots before the new season begins and manage luxury tax obligations.
