Maggie Gyllenhaal to head Venice Film Festival competition jury
The board chose the Oscar-nominated filmmaker for her independent voice and Venice-winning screenplay for The Lost Daughter, organizers said.

- The Board of Directors of La Biennale di Venezia selected Gyllenhaal on the recommendation of Venice Film Festival Director Alberto Barbera, who praised her "authoritative and independent voice."
- Gyllenhaal won the best screenplay award at Venice in 2021 for The Lost Daughter and recently directed the Frankenstein-inspired The Bride!, released this year.
- She is the third woman to head the Lido jury in the past five years, following Alexander Payne in 2025 and Isabelle Huppert in 2024.
