Madison council exempts first phase of Monona lakefront project from a referendum

MADISON, WISCONSIN, JUL 16 – Madison City Council approved exempting the $12-$16 million first phase of the Lake Monona waterfront project from referendum to expedite construction starting in 2027, with extensive public input.

City council received 60 pages of comments and emails about the decision to exempt the project from voter approval, and the amendment was changed to only exempt the first phase of the project.
