Madeleine McCann investigators remove ‘evidence’ from abandoned houses
- On Tuesday, police conducted a search in the countryside of southern Portugal close to a deserted farmhouse, initiating new investigations connected to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann nearly two decades ago.
- The inquiries are being conducted at the behest of a German prosecutor and center on Christian Brueckner, a German citizen currently imprisoned for a 2005 rape that took place in Portugal.
- Teams from Germany, Portugal, and the UK cleared dense vegetation, dug near derelict buildings, and used tools while searching several miles from Praia da Luz, where McCann vanished in 2007.
- McCann disappeared from her holiday bed at age three on May 3, 2007, and despite worldwide attention and reports even from Australia, Brueckner denies involvement and has not been charged.
- The family marked the 18th anniversary last month and remains determined to continue searching as broad multi-country investigations proceed near Lagos and a dam 50 kilometers away.
