Madagascar: 13 charged in plot to kill interim leader Randrianirina
Madagascar has charged 13 suspects, including a general, over an alleged plot to assassinate interim leader Michael Randrianirina, as the country grapples with political unrest following last year’s protests.
In Madagascar, thirteen people are prosecuted for having participated in an alleged plot to assassinate the president of the transition, Michaël Randrianirina, and to take power by a coup d'état. The announcement was made on Thursday 2 April 2026 by the Attorney General of the Court of First Instance of Antananarivo. Investigators discovered large sums of cash and firearms at the homes of the suspects.
Senior officers are among the persons involved, "including a general who has already demonstrated publicly and has indicated his intention to participate in a coup d'état," the prosecutor in charge of the case announced.
Authorities in Madagascar announced the thwarting of a coup attempt and the arrest of 11 people who were planning it.
