Mace Asks CIA Director for Documents Agency May Have on Epstein, Maxwell
Rep. Nancy Mace seeks CIA records to clarify ties between Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, and U.S. intelligence amid ongoing congressional and DOJ reviews.
- Rep. Nancy Mace, R-SC, on Tuesday urged the Central Intelligence Agency to release any records it holds on Jeffrey Epstein, saying `Congress needs to know what, if any, relationship the CIA had with Jeffrey Epstein.`
- Last month the Department of Justice released more than 3 million pages, 2,000 videos, and 180,000 images under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, including a trove on Jan. 30 that Congress recently viewed unredacted.
- Referencing a 2011 FOIA request, Mace wrote to CIA Director John Ratcliffe, saying the documents could shed light on whether Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell supported U.S. intelligence.
- Some lawmakers objected that names in the DOJ releases remain redacted, and the Department of Justice rollout and significant redactions have sparked controversy while the House Oversight Committee summoned Peter Mandelson last week.
- While speculation persists, there is no proof Epstein was a CIA agent, and U.S. and Israeli governments have long denied he was an intelligence asset, and Mace said the American people deserve answers.
