MacBook Neo Teardown Reveals It's the Most Repairable Apple Laptop in Ages

Australian YouTube repair channel Tech Re-Nu published a teardown earlier this week revealing the $599 MacBook Neo features a highly modular internal design with no adhesive, marking a significant shift toward repairability for Apple.
Unlike previous Apple laptops designed as 'sealed vaults' requiring heat guns to soften adhesive, the Neo utilizes standard Torx screws. This departure simplifies maintenance for schools and independent repair shops.
The battery is secured by 18 screws, allowing simple removal without adhesive. Modular USB-C ports, speakers, and headphone jack can be swapped individually, while the keyboard replaces without removing the entire top case.
This modularity enables faster repairs for Genius Bar employees and users, avoiding expensive component replacements. The 14-inch MacBook Pro requires a $440 top case replacement, whereas the Neo's design allows individual part swaps.
While the Neo significantly improves physical repairability, the logic board remains soldered, preventing RAM or storage upgrades. Positioned at $599, the machine challenges midrange Windows laptops and Chromebooks in the education market.
